FARRELL RESIDENCE
6,500 SQUARE FEET, CLEARWATER, FLORIDA

THE FARRELL FAMILY, A FAMILY OF SIX, HAD LONG OUTGROWN THEIR THREE BEDROOM HOUSE IN THE DEVELOPER SUBURBS OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA WHEN THEY FOUND A HALF ACRE OF LAND ON AN OUT-OF-THE-WAY STREET ON COUNTY LAND. THE EXISTING PROPERTY WAS A ONE STORY, THREE BEDROOM, THREE BATH 1960’S RANCH HOUSE OF 4,000 SQUARE FEET. THE MAJORITY OF THE EXISTING HOUSE STRUCTURE WAS DEMOLISHED AND A SECOND STORY WAS ADDED TO CREATE A NEW SIX BEDROOM, FIVE BATH CONTEMPORARY HOUSE WITH TWO CRAFT ROOMS FOR THE FARRELL PARENTS, ONE A PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE OTHER A CERAMIC ARTIST. THE HOUSE WAS CREATED USING CURRENT HURRICANE AND ENERGY DESIGN CRITERIA AND INCORPORATES MANY ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE CONCEPTS, INCLUDING BAMBOO AND SLATE FLOORING, NO VOC MATERIALS, AND CHICKEN COOPS IN THE BACK YARD FOR ORGANIC EGGS.
